EYFS Phonic and Reading Workshop – Wednesday 18th September 2024
It was a pleasure to welcome parents and grandparents in to school for our first Reception and Pre-School workshop of the year.
We started with a Phonics and Reading workshop where Mrs Latchford, our Reception Class Teacher, led a short information session detailing how we teach reading and phonics in the early years and sharing practical and fun ideas that can be done at home. Mrs Covill, Pre-School Leader, explained the importance of teaching and developing speaking and listening skills in the early years.
The parents and grandparents then joined their child in a wide range of activities, both in our indoor and outdoor provision, learning together and developing the skills of speaking, listening, reading words and short sentences and performing the different caption actions.
Mrs Latchford led a Phonic lesson with our Reception pupils for parents so they could see how we teach reading in school.
Lots of fun and learning was had by all.
